About San Diego

San DiegoThe area now known as San Diego has been inhabited by various peoples down through the centuries. The Kumeyaay tribe lived in the area when European explorers arrived, and in 1769, the Spanish officially established San Diego where the Old Town lies today, having previously named it after the Spanish Catholic saint, St. Didacus (also known as San Diego). For a time, the city was in Mexican hands until the United States established control of it in 1850. Today, San Diego has grown to become the second largest city in California.

There are numerous attractions in San Diego, both historical and otherwise. One of the most popular of these is the San Diego Zoo, located in Balboa Park. The park is also home to various gardens, a clock tower, the Spanish Village, and fifteen museums, including the Museum of Man and the Air & Space Museum, among others. Sea World, the Cabrillo National Monument, the USS Midway Museum, and the historical Old Town are among many other places to visit in San Diego.
